About the Restaurant

Welcome to 1827 Wine and Cheese Lounge, where culinary excellence meets warm hospitality. Nestled in the heart of downtown Perth, Ontario, our restaurant offers a dining experience like no other.

We are often asked of the significance of the name 1827…

As with most things in life, it starts with community. There is a rich history here in Perth, and we are dedicated to preserving it. As such, the year the Lounge building was built was 1827. It seemed only fitting that we celebrate this in our name.

1827 is more than a name.

It’s a moment in time.

The building at 100 Gore Street was raised in 1827, in a slower time. It was built to last, to serve a community, and to be a place where people crossed paths, paused, and stayed awhile.

That spirit still matters.

We believe the best experiences aren’t rushed.
They’re shared over good wine, honest food, and conversation that lingers longer than planned.

Our menu draws inspiration from European wine bars and kitchens where simplicity, seasonality, and craft come first — interpreted through a local lens and grounded in the people who gather here now.

1827 is a place to slow down.
To reconnect.
To return to what hospitality was always meant to be.

European spirit.
Local heart.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before your visit.

The Kitchen

Is 1827 just a wine and cheese bar?

No. 1827 Wine & Cheese Lounge in Perth, Ontario is a full, chef-led scratch kitchen as well as a wine bar. Alongside cheese boards and wine flights, we serve house-made pasta, filet mignon, pan-seared salmon, seared scallops, smoked duck breast and butter chicken, all cooked to order.

Who is the chef at 1827?

Our head chef is Jon Askeland, a Red Seal trained chef with decades of experience. Jon leads a small kitchen that makes the menu from scratch every day, with ingredients that change with the Lanark County seasons.

Is everything really made from scratch?

Yes. Our sauces, dressings, pasta dishes, meatballs and desserts are made in house. We have no deep fryer and no flat top, and our chicken stock starts with roasting whole carcasses. The two things we bring in are ice cream and our kettle-cooked chips.

Are the desserts at 1827 made in house?

Yes. Every dessert is made in our kitchen, including the raspberry and seasonal cheesecakes, classic tiramisu, gluten-free panna cotta, the feature cake and the feature dessert. The only exception is the vanilla ice cream in our affogato.

Where do your ingredients come from?

As close to home as we can. We work with Lanark County and Ottawa Valley producers including Back Forty Artisan Cheese, Top Shelf Distillers, Perth Brewery and Bridge Masters Brewing, and the menu shifts with what local farms are growing.

The Story

Why is it called 1827?

Our home at 100 Gore Street East in downtown Perth was built in 1827, on the bank of the Tay River. It was built to last and to bring people together, and we named the lounge for the year it was raised.

Is Perth worth the drive from Ottawa?

We think so. Perth is about an hour from Ottawa, with historic limestone streets, the Tay Canal, farmers markets, theatre, breweries and distilleries. It rewards you in every season. Come without a plan, and stay longer than you meant to.
